EndNote: Connect to Databases from EN

Using EndNote to manage your bibliographic information.

Hints and tips

You will not be able to use this function for searching all the databases available through the University of Adelaide Library. You can always search in the native database and then transfer your references into your EN library.

When searching the UofA Library - you will only be able to search the catalogue - you will not be able to search for the contents of books and journals.

Connection files/online search

Using a connection file (online search function) from within EndNote allows you to connect to, search, and import references from freely available resources such as library catalogues and PubMed and a few others such as Web of Science.

Online search modes

When you search a database using this option - you can choose to put the results direct into your EN library or import the references into a temporary library.

The first option only allows you to view your own library references - online search groups are not visible (Local Library Mode)

The second option imports into a temporary library (Online Search mode) - references you wish to keep can be copied to your EN Library using the Copy References to command on the EN toolbar

The third option imports direct into your library (Integrated Library & Online Search Mode).
