Using Elsevier ScienceDirect

The library provides access to hundreds  of Elsevier and Science Direct electronic books, book series, handbooks and reference works such as encyclopedias.
Science features strongly but social sciences and business are also included.


  • You will see a list of all the sections and chapters in your ebook. Click on the section or chapter title to open and view online (eReader view). This displays the section as a continuous scroll.
  • To read in original (paginated) format, click on the PDF link.


  • You can search within your specific ebook, or search the entire platform, from the search boxes at the top of the ebook home page.

Downloading and printing:

  • Chapters and sections can be downloaded and saved as PDFs, which can then be printed.
  • You also have the option of downloading and saving in other formats for use on different mobile devices.
    Click on the section or chapter title you wish to download or save (eReader format).
    Then use the "More options" drop-down menu to save as ePub or Mobipocket files.


Highlighting, annotating, etc.:

  • This can be done using the "Comment" toolbar on your saved PDFs.

Other features

Elsevier ScienceDirect ebooks allow export of citations (to Endnote, etc.) from the eReader view.
