Referencing - unpublished material (held in Rare Books & Special Collections)

The correct citation of unpublished material should contain:

  • a description of the item
  • the name of the individual collection
  • the full name of the Library
  • the manuscript number of the individual collection
  • the series number

Examples of preferred styles are:

Personal papers

John Smith to Crocker, 4 October 1955, Crocker Papers, The University of Adelaide Library, MSS 327 C938p/Series 3

Records of organisations etc

Cash book 1939-64, Records of the Adelaide Medical Students' Society, The University of Adelaide Library, MSS 610.6 A21/Series 5

Abbreviated subsequent references to the same items could read:

UAL MSS 327 C938p/3

UAL MSS 610.6 A21/5
