Music

This is a guide for students of the Elder Conservatorium of Music

Key resources

The two most commonly used referencing styles at the Elder Conservatorium of Music are:

  • Harvard style (also known as Author-Date style)
  • MLA style (also known as Notes and Bibliography style)

Both of these referencing styles, as used by the Conservatorium, follow the guidelines set out in The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed.

It is important to check which style your lecturer wishes you to use, and to apply this rigorously and consistently.

In all referencing styles, the details of punctuation, spacing and use of italics are critically important.

The Music MLA style cannot be found in Endnote, however the style can be downloaded here. For assistance, please speak to the Liaison Librarian team. Please note that this style template should be used as a guide only.
