Create a logic grid

Throughout your psychology degree, there will be several assignments which ask you to create a logic grid or require you to use an advanced search strategy to locate resources, including review and empirical articles. This page provides an example logic grid for a search in PsycINFO that you can refer to while completing these types of assignments. For more information on each aspect of this logic grid, please see our Developing a Logic Grid page in our Advanced Searching MyUni Course.

To create the logic grid below, we completed these steps:

  1. Identified our research question's key concepts;
  2. Connected the search strings for each concept with AND;
  3. Added synonyms;
  4. Considered truncation, wildcards and phrase searching;
  5. Added database subject headings;
  6. Added database field codes;
  7. Put it all together in a logic grid.
  8. Entered it as a search string into PsycINFO
